There are Tech Writers in the Desert?
The Southern Nevada chapter of the STC had its first meeting in April of 1986. Since then, our presence in southern Nevada has been steadily growing. Our chapter serves all areas in southern Nevada (we also have a few members in St. George, UT) and is part of Region 8. We meet on the first Wednesday of each month and are dark during the months of July and December.
In addition to helping members network, enhance their career, and improve their skill sets, we are also helped host the 53rd Annual STC Conference. We partner with a number of community organizations and businesses which, in turn, helps enhance life for all those living in So. Nevada.
The So. Nevada chapter of STC brings together technical communicators from many different industries and areas in southern Nevada. Our chapter is relatively small with fewer than 40 members. However, we have an extremely dedicated and talented group. We recently undertook the immense project of completely redesigning our website and we are preparing to help host the 53rd Annual Conference.
Members of our chapter work for casinos, software development companies, and the government. A few of our members are employed by firms in Silicon Valley and use the latest technology to telecommute. We have a few student members who attend one of the local colleges.
If You Build It, They Will Come…
And so we do. The first or second Wednesday of each month we gather at the Summerlin library to discuss the latest STC happenings as well as network with other writers, share our tips of the trade, and enjoy a little chocolate! Meetings are held from 6:30 to 8:30 pm in a small conference room on the first floor (north side). We do not meet in July or December, but instead we usually get together for a small BBQ (in July) and holiday party (in December). All meetings are open to members, guests, and the general public. Special events (such as the BBQ and the holiday party) are open to members and invited guests only.
