Board of Directors

STC is governed on a Society level by an elected board of directors. In addition to the Society leaders, each of STC's more than 110 local chapters elects a set of officers.

Dr. Hillary Hart

President

Hillary Hart is a Fellow of STC and has long served at the community and international levels. Her STC awards include Distinguished Technical Communication from·Technical Communication, Distinguished SIG Service, and the President’s Award.·

Alan Houser

Vice President

Alan Houser has had a key role in planning the past five STC Summits, including serving as Program Manager for 2009/Atlanta and Conference Chair for 2010/Dallas and 2011/Sacramento. As a technical communication consultant, he deals with many different companies and business requirements, and as a popular conference speaker, he has had the opportunity to engage technical communicators from around the globe. Alan joined the the Society in 1993, is a past president of the Pittsburgh Chapter, and is an STC Fellow.

Cynthia C. Currie

Immediate Past President

During 2009, STC weathered a severe financial crisis; it was the most difficult year in STC history! But we survived; we're still here, and now we're in the process of recovery and tremendous renewal. I am looking forward to continuing to guide STC forward in 2010, with great new educational programs designed to support our new certification program, which will take shape this year! It's going to be another exciting and productive year!

Aiessa M. Moyna

Treasurer

As treasurer, Aiessa chairs the Finance and Investment Committee, which is responsible for the annual budget, financial reserves, and financial processes of the Society. An Associate Fellow, she joined STC in 1984.

Rachel Houghton

Secretary

Rachel Houghton has been actively involved in the Society for Technical Communication (STC) since becoming a member in 1998. Rachel served as program chair for the 2010 STC Technical Communication Summit held in Dallas, TX from 2-5 May 2010. 

Karen Baranich

Director at Large

Karen is an IT supervisor for SCANA, a southeast-based utility company. She and her team deliver technical writing, training, communication, and web design. Her career includes positions as education coordinator, researcher, commercial artist, city planner, fashion designer, and newspaper reporter.
