Joel Meier

For outstanding leadership of the STC Rocky Mountain community through sustained contributions to the website and blog, implementing advanced and innovative technologies to streamline processes, arranging and hosting creative networking events, and mentoring other technical communicators.

Joel Meier has worked in the healthcare and medical fields in addition to the manufacturing, software/hardware, enterprise resource planning, and financial industries. Wherever he works, he improves processes and workflows by implementing advanced, innovative technologies. Joel performs his work quietly with patience and enthusiasm, instantly putting everyone at ease.

He has documented everything from the military use of kite flying in the 1800s to an automated replacement screenshot process that earned acclaimed reviews by industry peers to providing graphics for a comment letter to the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Throughout his career, he has leveraged technology to reduce development time and expense, while improving overall quality of the deliverable. Joel consistently satisfies his customers by delivering both documentation and support tools that third-party clients can self-manage. He continually finds ways to enhance the user experience, maximizing efficiencies by implementing state-of-the-art development technologies.

Joel is a member of the STC Rocky Mountain Chapter and STC Technical Editing SIG. He also serves on the STC certification website subcommittee. In addition to his STC activities, Joel serves the Boulder Writers Alliance as their webmaster.

His favorite things to write are user manuals, technical specifications, processes and procedures, and help solutions. His other technical communication interests include content management, single-sourcing, reuse, and multi-channel publishing. Joel’s favorite hobby is recumbent cycling. He lives in Denver, CO, with his wife, Fiona, and his 14-year-old son, Josh, along with Lilly (a Jack Russell) and Charlie (a Westie).
