The professional writing major requires a minimum of 120 hours. For degree completion, at least 25 percent of the semester credit hours must be earned through instruction offered by UH-Downtown. The last 30 of the total hours and 18 of the upper-level hours toward the degree must be successfully completed in residence at UH-Downtown. An overall minimum grade point average of 2.0 at UH-Downtown is required for graduation, and a minimum average of 2.0 must be maintained in the upper-level hours in the major.

University of Washington

Students learn to design, write, edit, and evaluate technical and scientific materials. Students also learn about technical discourse, human-computer interaction, hypermedia and multimedia, publications management, and online support systems. Graduates apply their knowledge to create and enhance communication in scientific and technical environments.

University of Wisconsin-Stout

The Master of Science in Technical and Professional Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Stout is a 30-credit, fully online degree designed for working professionals. The program includes courses in usability, user-centered design, project management, emerging media, and communicating in multilingual environments. Students take advantage of a textbook rental service and do not pay extra for instructional resources. UW-Stout's Career Services office offers current students and alumni access to a variety of career exploration and preparation services.
