Q: A strong indicator of future success is past success. What positions have you held that involved similar duties and responsibilities of the office you are seeking, what specific responsibilities were assigned to that position and what was the result of your efforts?
I have served in many leadership roles throughout my career, from managing a team distributed around the world to owning my own consulting company. My personal drive for success leads me to be demanding both of myself and of those around me.
I have previously served as a Director on the Board and I understand how the Board functions. I have also worked closely with the STC staff on many projects over the past 6 years and developed strong working relationships with them. My work includes leadership positions for the STC Summit and serving as the chair of several task forces, including the Strategic Program Assessment effort which helped refine STC’s Strategic Plan and prioritize goals and related programs.
As a Director at NetIQ, I lead a team of more than 40 members across the US, India, and Bolivia. I also managed a multi-million dollar budget and worked on process management across the entire Research and Development organization.
As a business owner of UserAid, I’ve managed all aspects of the business and built a successful company.
I have represented all members of STC in discussions regarding funding, in educational presentation, and in many roles as a senior STC member for over 15 years. It is a logical extension to represent the membership’s needs to the board in a formal role as Vice President.
As a business owner I am responsible to clients and staff. I ensure realistic expectations are set, and that I run a fiscally responsible business. Responsibilities include providing clear and timely information, and solid leadership. I have worked in technical communication for almost 20 years and represented STC as a professional organization to everyone I meet.
I help members and community leaders by serving the overall interests of STC. I promote long term sustainability and strong communities and partnerships. I support a strong pro-member agenda. I work hard to be a recognized name, and the net results are successful events, and a chapter that I helped guide to a Pacesetter Award. These results speak for themselves.
As I am currently on the BoD I very intentionally am NOT using an example from the current board to avoid any concerns about personalities on the BoD and to maintain BoD confidentiality.
