Visit STC's New Website
Have you seen the new STC website yet? While the members-only area is still being perfected, the public-facing sections of the website are now live. Information is much easier to find, with a clean and user-friendly design. Please make use of the Feedback tabs, too, to let us know if something is missing or out of place, or if you really like a section in particular.
Tim O'Reilly Speaking at STC Summit
STC is proud to announce Tim O'Reilly as STC Honorary Fellow and Keynote Speaker at the 2011 Summit. Tim is the CEO and founder of O'Reilly Media, thought by many to be the best computer book publisher in the world. O'Reilly Media also hosts conferences on technology topics, including the O'Reilly Open Source Convention, Web 2.0 Summit, and Gov 2.0 Summit.
"Tim O'Reilly is one of the most highly regarded thought leaders in our industry," said Phylise Banner, chair of the Honorary Fellow committee, "and it is with pride that we welcome him to the Society with the rank of Honorary Fellow." Added Conference Manager Alan Houser, "He is the perfect keynote speaker for the Sacramento Summit." STC President Hillary Hart agreed, commenting that, "Tim's appearance at the Summit recognizes the value technical communicators bring to 'spreading the knowledge of innovators.'" Visit the Summit website for more information and to register.
Other Conference News
For those going to the Summit, the official Summit hotels are the place to be! Networking and easy access to the sessions are just two of the reasons to stay at the Hyatt or Sheraton. Learn more reasons from the Summit blog. The Summit blog will be continuously updated with new information, tourism tips, and more.
"Beyond the Bleeding Edge" returns to the Summit, too, and Neil Perlin is looking for proposals. Many technical communicators are hard-put to keep up with the daily grind, let alone have time to look into emerging technologies. Present a summary of technologies and methodologies that are too new or unusual to fit into traditional Summit sessions. See the full description for more details and instructions on how to submit a proposal.

Fellows and Associate Fellows Named
The highest honorary ranks awarded by the Society are Fellow and Associate Fellow. STC Associate Fellows are Senior Members who have attained distinction by doing important work in the field of technical communication, made significant contributions to the Society, or both. The rank of Fellow is the highest honor an STC member can receive and is awarded to Associate Fellows who have continued to excel in the field of technical communication.
Congratulations to the newest Associate Fellows and Fellows! If you'd like to cheer on the honorees in person, be sure to buy a ticket for the Honors Banquet at the Summit when you register.
